the behind-the-scenes making of the cartoon, notes by the author, and much more. “ A drowning person has a choice.” The question is, what choice are they going to make? Honestly, every person has a choice when it comes to life as a whole, but most of us take that for granted. We just choose what’s going to keep us happy or busy for the time being and when that gets old, we move on to the next pleasurable item on our list. People, especially teens, could care less about the “end”, because it just seems too far away, considering we just started our lives. Unfortunately, the worst is usually closer than it seems.  Click Here to place your order!

Chantal Small, the author and illustrator of this book can tell it to you first hand. She grew up in an unfortunate situation, where she found herself in the midst of abuse. Throughout her high school years, she struggled with the pressures of school, friends, and family, to the point where she decided to commit suicide. However, one note from one kid in her class changed her life. In this story, a teenage girl finds herself face to face with raw reality: most of us really don’t have a purpose, and it really gets to her. Its true, most of us just wander through life enjoying what comes our way. When our friends, or drugs, or relationships, or work, or really anything calls, we head that direction, not really considering what might happen after that. Long story short, this girl finds herself lost, and when she looks for help in the wrong places, she either gets nothing, or more trouble. In the end, she finds herself dying, drowning in depression, but she realizes she has a choice. She can choose life or death. You might not notice, but you could be in your own drowning situation. Still, I’ve got some news for you; you’ve got a few choices. You can distract yourself with everything the rest of the world offers until it’s too late, you can choose to give up now, or you can choose something the world can never offer you…life.  This is your only life, you’re only chance to make things right and truthfully, you never know when it’s too late. As you find yourself in the pages of this amazing, beautiful, inspiring story, remember that. Remember that a drowning person has a choice. So, what are you going to choose? "In your own journey to realizing and hopefully accepting God’s love, I hope you will recognize the lies spun by Satan and any outsider’s influence of false hope. I pray that you would search for the truth found in God and allow Him to guide you through life’s Labyrinth." Chantal Small, Author.

Endorsements:

As a Christian Psychiatrist, I highly endorse "Labyrinth," an excellent, deeply meaningful Christian "comic" book, authored and illustrated by Chantal Small. Teens face exciting times and depressing times and are in the process of learning to cope and grow from both. The teen suicide rate is 300% higher today than it was fifty years ago because of our deteriorating culture. This comic book will help teens understand answers and solutions to some of life's toughest questions.

I am pleased to recommend this creative and unique comic book by Chantal Small, which effectively communicates the love of God for those battling depression and seeking greater meaning in life.  This story is particularly aimed at the struggles facing so many young people today and draws the reader in through an obvious artistic skill that enhances a compelling storyline.  It reminds me of the Chick evangelism tracts that positively impacted my life and the lives of many teenagers in the ‘70s and ‘80s.

This is Chantal's story told in a uniquely interesting way.  In essence, her story is every disciple's story.  It is also an invitation to future followers of Jesus to find in Him the only Way of escape.

As he walked on the water toward Jesus, Peter made a common mistake, turning his head in fear he “saw the wind boisterous”. The Greek word used is /animon,/ a figment, an illusion, a wind gust, /animation,/ the same word used in Japanese comics, /anime/. We could say that Peter saw a cartoon, the swirling wind evoked imaginary monsters within his mind. Fact is, /animon /or wind can’t be seen with the naked eye but the human soul can see things “out there”. The question is, what do you envision? The gifted artist and story-teller, Chantal Small, turns her eyes to the /anime/ world and sees the monsters faced by every teenager. Like Peter, the comic character experiences being swallowed by the waves but also like Peter she finds the strong rescuing arms of Christ. One youth pastor polled his kids for definitions for this experience called life. Two replies stood out, “Life is a prison sentence that you get for being born” and “life is a disease that only death can cure”. Chantal adds her definition, that life is a labyrinth with lots of twists and turns and lots of competing voices. But for those who entertain the right Voice, the labyrinth ends in light. I compliment this great work of animation and imagination. Chantal, keep drawing!
