Sickle Cell Screening and Treatment Project

In 2009, API medical team screened over 900 people for Sickle Cell disease from Tokarva and Tapi districts of South Gujarat, India. Over 540 people tested positive for the disease. Most of these people had never received any prior care.
Poverty, illiteracy, and lack of access to basic health care regularly put thousands of people in this situation. API is looking for partners/sponsors for establishing the clinic to help thousands of patients suffering from sickle cell disease.
It is only by volunteer support that the needs of some of these people can be met.
“Recently three young men passed away due to sickle cell disease and lack of timely diagnosis and treatment. This is what challenged me to undertake this medical camp.” - Dr. Thomas Idiculla, Mission Trip-2009
