Invite, Inform and Involve Lord Jesus
  • In God’s plan for humanity

In God’s plan for humanity, family is a key relationship and institution that bring health to society. God created man, woman and established the first family. Lord Jesus Christ also did His first miracle in the wedding that happened in the city of Cana. Apostle John records this and states that it was ‘a miraculous sign’. On the third day a wedding took place at Cana in Galilee. Jesus' mother was there, and Jesus and his disciples had also been invited to the wedding. When the wine was gone, Jesus' mother said to him, "They have no more wine." "Dear woman, why do you involve me?" Jesus replied, "My time has not yet come." His mother said to the servants, "Do whatever he tells you." Nearby stood six stone water jars, the kind used by the Jews for ceremonial washing, each holding from twenty to thirty gallons. Jesus said to the servants, "Fill the jars with water"; so they filled them to the brim. Then he told them, "Now draw some out and take it to the master of the banquet." They did so, and the master of the banquet tasted the water that had been turned into wine. He did not realize where it had come from, though the servants who had drawn the water knew. Then he called the bridegroom aside and said, "Everyone brings out the choice wine first and then the cheaper wine after the guests have had too much to drink; but you have saved the best till now." This, the first of his miraculous signs, Jesus performed in Cana of Galilee. He thus revealed his glory, and his disciples put their faith in him (John 2: 1-11) In this miraculous event, we learn three important truths for a successful family life or married life. They are: Invite Lord Jesus, Inform and Involve.

  • Invite Lord Jesus

The bride and bridegroom had invited Lord Jesus and his disciples to the wedding. Inviting Lor Jesus in our personal lives is very important. “Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with him, and he with me.” (Revelations 3:20) Each individual, including the bride and bridegroom is expected to invite Lord Jesus Christ in their lives. But, when they are married, they are expected to invite Lord Jesus as couple in their family life. The head of the house should be Lord Jesus and the couple playing secondary role to His leadership. That means husband and wife committing their lives to Lord Jesus and mutually committing their lives to one another. When a person accepts Lordship of Jesus Christ, it is not difficult to be submissive and loving to one another. Inviting Lord Jesus means, inviting Prince of Peace in the family life. Many families, do not have peace, as they do not invite or allow Prince of Peace to minister in their lives. The result is fights, ego clashes, violence, hurts, separation, divisions etc. Husband and wife may know Lord Jesus Christ individually, but if they do not invite him to take charge of their family unitedly, they will try in futility to build family life on their own strength.

  • Inform Lord Jesus

In the wedding function at Cana, there was a lack; the wine was not enough for all the guests. Lack, need, crisis, problems are part of normal life. The question is how we handle them. Some people try to deny that there is an issue. By doing so, they secretly wish the problem solves by itself. Few, do not want to tackle the issue as it is a minor problem. It does not deserve attention or attraction. When the problem or issue is not attended it can become complex and larger. In the initial stages, the lack of wine was a private problem, known only to the family members and servants. But, when the time goes on, the issue would be a public problem, that would damage the reputation of the family. Yes, most of the problems in the family could be dealt easily but when ignored, it becomes public. The bride and bridegroom informed Lord Jesus through Mary, mother of Jesus who was most probably related to the bride or bridegroom. ‘Informing’ Jesus indicates their relationship and trust in the Lord. It also indicates the life of prayer of the couple. Each and every need, lack, problem, crisis, setbacks, shortcomings, mistakes …etc. should be brought to the Presence of Lord Jesus Christ in prayer. Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. (Phil 4:6.7)

  • Involve Lord Jesus

When Mary informed Lord Jesus about the lack; "Dear woman, why do you involve me?" Jesus replied, "My time has not yet come." Informing Jesus was her responsibility, after that Lord will act in His own time. His time table and timings are the best. Also, Mary instructed the servants to do what Lord Jesus commands them to do. When the time came, Lord Jesus commanded the servants to draw water and fill in the six large jars that were kept for washing (not storing wine). The servants were instructed to just obey. They were not expected to reason against or evaluate or argue about the sustainability of the plan or project. Many times Lord asks his children to do simple things, easy things, ordinary things, and inexpensive things. But, our reason says it is futile and our feelings are not excitement, so we do not like to do the simpler things of life. The servants as instructed just drew water and filled the jars. The Lord commanded again the servants to take water from the jar and give it to the chef. The servants must have thought, it is a funny job. First fill it and again take it. Why can’t be taken direct from the source and given? These servants were obedient, did as they were instructed to. It was the best wine the chef ever had. The lack was not just completed but the best wine came out for the feast. The Lord is not just mending or repairing things, but creates brand new things. In similar feasts, the best wine is provided first and the quality gradually goes down that the worst or the cheapest comes last. When Lord Jesus is the Lord of the life, the family life becomes sweeter, more glorious, lovelier, more productive, more rejoicing…etc. Involving Jesus means to hear his voice, obey his instruction and bringing out best creative solution by His wisdom and power.

  • Challenge

The crisis created opportunity for Lord to demonstrate His power. The first secret of success in family life is inviting Lord Jesus to become to head of the family by the couple. It is a total commitment of their lives to the Lord and to one-another. The second secret is to have dynamic intimate relationship with the loving and living Saviour. Taking all minor and major issues to him so that He helps the couple to solve the problems with His wisdom. The third secret of success is to hear his instruction, obey without questioning and doing what he bids us to do. The indication of the successful marriage is not the glorious wedding event and all things go downhill after that. But, the love, joy, peace, understanding, unity, etc. multiplies every day until Lord comes in Glory.
